Flight times range from six hours to much higher, depending upon the airport you choose to depart from, as well as other important factors. So, how long is a flight to Hawaii? The length of a flight to Hawaii also depends on whether you have a flight connection, as well as the overall flight distance from your starting point.

How long is a flight to Hawaii?

As a professional travel writer (and Hawaii lover), I’ve taken many flights to Hawaii from the east coast of the United States on different airlines. In fact, I’ve probably flown to the Hawaiian Islands from east coast airports between 25 and 30 times over the years.

Flights to Hawaii can vary significantly, depending on your chosen airline, which airport you depart from, and which airport you connect through. Generally speaking, it’s at least about 5 or 6 hours to fly to Hawaii from the west coast of the USA; 8 to 10 hours from the midwest and approximately 11 to 12 hours from the east coast.

Some travelers prefer a connection, and sometimes an hour or two is enough to give passengers a quick rest — and time to “stretch your legs.” It’s also an excellent way to get re-energized for the final leg of your flight to paradise!

How long is the flight to Hawaii from California?

For travelers who are based in California, you are very lucky, because you have the shortest distance between the U.S. mainland and the Hawaiian islands. It’s such a short flight, that you can even go for the weekend! On average, the absolute shortest flights from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SAN) to Hawaii are about six hours non-stop.

There’s really no reason to connect through another California airport on these flights, so be sure to select a flight with the shortest distance and no connections!

Travelers from California also have a large selection of airlines to choose from, which means prices may be lower at times. You may find rates lower than $300 round-trip, depending on the time of year, of course. (Try the Fall season and immediately after the holidays)!

These airlines fly from California airports to Hawaii: American Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Delta, Jet Blue, United Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

How long is the flight to Hawaii from New York?

Flying from New York to Hawaii is a full day of travel (over 11 hours) and there’s no way around this.

The good news is that the New York City area has several airports to choose from (JFK, LGA and EWR), so there are a lot of flight choices. Just be sure to choose the ones with the best and easiest connections for you and your plans. There are many airlines that offer one stop connections. Those usually push the travel time to nearly 14 hours.

Or for travelers who want to fly non-stop to Hawaii from New York, your best bet is Delta (from EWR or JFK); and Hawaiian Airlines (from JFK).

How long is the flight to Hawaii from Philadelphia?

Flying to Hawaii from Philadelphia, PA is a long flight and takes about the same time as a flight from New York. Currently, there is no non-stop flight to Hawaii from Philadelphia. However, I have flown frequently from Philadelphia to Hawaii (round trip) and have discovered the best one-stop flights to select.

Personally, as someone who flies to Hawaii a few times a year, I usually fly American Airlines from Philadelphia to Hawaii. Philly is an American Airlines hub, so there are several choices for Hawaii flights. You can connect through PHX (Phoenix), DFW (Dallas), or LAX (Los Angeles).

All of these flights are about 14 or 15 hours in total travel time. Ideally, I like to choose LAX as a connection, if that’s available, as it provides a good balance from the east coast. It makes the final leg a bit shorter, and each flight is about the same length of time.

How long is the flight to Hawaii from Phoenix?

Flying to Hawaii from Phoenix, AZ is another easy flight and I have taken this one frequently. I often connect through PHX to Hawaii when I fly from Philadelphia (PHL).

A non-stop flight from Phoenix to Hawaii is approximately six hours and 45 minutes. (Slightly longer than flying to Hawaii from California). You can find flights on American, Hawaiian Airlines, and Southwest Airlines from PHX (Phoenix).

How long is the flight to Hawaii from Houston?

Flying to Hawaii from Houston, TX is a relatively long flight, about nine hours. There’s only one airline that flies non-stop from Houston to Honolulu, and that’s United. All the other airlines have one and two stops, the shortest being fourteen hours.

Flying to Hawaii from Florida is a very long flight, so be prepared. No matter which Florida airport you choose, there will be a connection necessary, and the shortest flight duration (at the time of this posting) is 12 hours and 46 minutes.

 Depending on the airlines, the connections from Florida will be in the following airports: PHX, SFO or SEA.

How long is the flight to Hawaii from the UK?

The flight to Hawaii from the United Kingdom (UK) is a very long flight. The shortest from Great Britain is about 18 hours (with one stop). For travelers flying from London to Hawaii, it’s a good idea to plan to stop in the United States for a day or two to break up the flight.

No doubt about it – this is a far journey, and most airlines require at least two stops.

How long is the flight to Hawaii from Atlanta?

There are no non-stop flights from Atlanta, GA (ATL) to Hawaii. All flights require a connection from this airport and the shortest travel duration is 12 hours and 34 minutes. The only airlines with only one-stop from ATL are American Airlines and Alaska.

How long is a flight to Hawaii from Virginia?

The state of Virginia is located on the east coast of the United States, and the best airport to fly to Hawaii from is Dulles International (IAD).

Most airlines flying to Hawaii from Dulles require at least one stop, and the shortest flight is over 16 hours. United offers a non-stop and that’s ten hours and 46 minutes.

How long is the flight to Hawaii from Dallas?

Flying from Dallas, Texas (DFW) to Hawaii is not as far as flying from the east coast and you can find some great non-stop flights that will get you there quickly. A non-stop flight on American Airlines to Hawaii from Dallas is about eight hours and 22 minutes.

 If you choose a one-stop connection from Dallas to Hawaii, it will be significantly longer, about ten to 14 hours.

Why is the flight to Hawaii so long?

Hawaii is the most isolated group of islands in the world, and there’s no easy way to reach this incredible piece of paradise. Located in the South Pacific ocean, Hawaii is located 2,000 miles from California (the US Mainland) and nearly 5,000 miles from New York (the eastern seaboard).  You’re also traveling through several time zones to reach Hawaii.

So, no matter which island you choose to visit (Oahu, Maui, Kauai, The Island of Hawaii, Molokai, and Lanai), the flight distance is just about the same.

Although it’s a long flight, many vacationers who love Hawaii believe it’s worth it – and they return again and again! I’m one of those Hawaii fans who agree! Flying from the east coast can be easier if you choose to make a connection for a few hours — or a few days. You can make your flight a lot easier by following some of my tips below.

Tips for long flights

As a frequent traveler to Hawaii, I would love to share some valuable tips with fellow travelers to make their trip easier. One of the most important tips is to be as comfortable as possible. If you can afford to do so, choose a business class or “economy plus” seat. Do your best to avoid the middle seats, naturally. If you prefer the aisle or window, you may have to pay extra on some airlines.

On an airplane, it’s worth it to choose the right seat that will start the trip off right. If you have an aisle seat, you can get up and down easily, go for a quick stroll around the plane, and / or get up to use the restroom without asking anyone to move. If you have a window seat, you’ll have to ask a row of people to move when you need to get up, but you’ll have a great view for most of the flight — and a spectacular view when you reach Hawaii and prepare to land. (So have your phone ready to take some photos and videos)!

Tips for getting around Hawaii

No matter which island you visit, you’ll want to enjoy every minute of your vacation! Portable charger for your smartphone: Pro tip: Most airplanes today have power outlets at the seats, however, they don’t always work, so please bring a portable charger. You’ll be glad you did!

Noise-canceling earbuds or headphones Pro tip: Before you get to the airport for a long flight, download at least 6 hours of your favorite podcasts, a movie or two, and a few audiobooks. Even if you know the airline has wifi or TVs, you never know when a technical problem with this equipment. This happens all the time. And the wifi is not strong flying over the ocean, in most cases.

Sleep mask / Eye mask for sleeping on the airplane: Pro tip: You may need this if you want to sleep!

Slip-on sneakers (Skechers work great)! Slip-on shoes are the most comfortable on the airplane.

Travel Blanket: Every flight I’ve taken in the last few years has been freezing cold. There are no blankets on board. Do yourself a favor and bring along your own.

Hoodie (zippered) for travel: Pro tip: See above about the chilly temperature on airplanes these days. Hoodies add an extra layer of protection (plus extra pockets for lip balm, earphones, water bottle, etc).

Extra Hawaii travel tip! What’s in your carry-on bag? It’s easy! Pack two light, thin outfits in your carry-on: a light sundress, casual sandals, shorts, a t-shirt, and a bathing suit. If your luggage goes missing, this is all you need (really)!

The flight times to Hawaii from the US mainland (and beyond) vary, depending on your closest airport and your connecting airport (if you have one).  

If you think the non-stop flight is too long, consider a connection, which will give you an hour or two to relax between flights and prepare for your vacation in paradise! If you happen to have lounge access, you can chill out in an airport lounge and enjoy a snack while you wait for your connection. In addition to airline lounges (such as American Airlines’ Admiral’s Club), there are also AMEX’s Centurion Lounge and Priority Pass lounges.

Some travelers who fly from the east coast of the United States prefer to spend a day or two in California (or another city) before continuing their trip to Hawaii. Whichever you prefer, it’s always a good idea to research flights, times, and duration before booking!

As a globetrotting travel writer, I have learned that certain items are essential when flying or going on your next vacation. The best travel bag overall: Ameribag “Healthy Back” bag

I’ve purchased two of these Ameribag Healthy Back bags over the years and use them ALL the time. In fact, I don’t just use them for travel; they have turned into my everyday bag. It features several convenient compartments inside and out. It’s made from a water-resistant material and is comfortable to wear all day.

This fabulous bag is so special, in fact, that years ago, when I interviewed Academy award-winning actor Robert De Niro for an article about his new Nobu restaurant for USA Today, he actually pointed to my bag. Another cool bagI often travel with Is Aloha Collection. I love these colorful “splash proof” bags of all sizes — they get five big stars from me! I use these bags mostly in Hawaii and other beach destinations.

This company makes sustainable, eco-friendly, lightweight bags of all sizes. Aloha Collection has a style for everything you could need, and are water-resistant and can be used day or night.

Aloha Collection offers a wide variety of bags they call “splash proof” because they are water-resistant, not waterproof. These include small, zippered cosmetic cases; medium-sized crossbody bags and handbags; larger beach bags. (And many other styles). One of my favorite Aloha Collection bags is the “Day Tripper,” and there are so many fun tropical (and other) patterns to choose from!

The bags fold flat and weigh nearly nothing, so they’re ideal for travel and fitting into your suitcase for a vacation or business trip. Most of their smaller bags are a great alternative to packing cubes, too, as they keep everything organized in your suitcase, and you can use them for multiple purposes while traveling.

Small liquid containers that won’t spill

Finally – these tiny, silicone travel containers from INSFIT are the best way to travel with liquids and creams!

These perfectly-sized and shaped tiny containers will hold all your creams, lotions, sunblock, shampoos, conditioner and even jewelry. They are leakproof and stylish, and designed in way to be totally customizable. And of course, they are TSA compliant!

Travel Blanket that folds Up and packs easy

When you fly, you might find that the in-air temperature has been very cold during most of the flight. As most airlines don’t have blankets available (even in business class) it’s best to bring your own. I learned this the hard way…I had to borrow a blanket from a very kind passenger sitting next to me last summer. (And yes, I was already wearing my hoodie and socks – see below)!

Needless to say, the first thing I did when I got home was to purchase a travel blanket for myself.

It’s thin, has its own case, and will keep you warm during the flight. This blanket is easy to pack and keep in your carry-on. Buy this and keep it handy for your next flight.

Best sneakers / shoes for travel : Skechers

If you’re looking for comfort and style, check out Skechers sneakers for men, women, and kids. This international company makes great shoes in a rainbow of colors that are also incredibly cushy, comfortable, colorful, and stylish. They have many “slip-in” options, too! Personally, I have several pairs of these awesome sneakers. They are great for travel because they are perfect for everything — and easily go from the city to the beach.

Best hoodie for travel

I always wear a hoodie when I travel, and especially on my flights. It keeps me warm, and has pockets for all those small items that you need on a flight.

Be sure your hoodie has inside and outside pockets. Inside pockets make it so convenient to hold your phone, wallet, passport, ear phones or ear buds, water bottle, lip balm and anything else that you need easy access on the plane. (This is so much easier than rummaging through that bag under your seat, or having to take your other bag out of the overhead bin).

I’m a fan of the Scott eVest hoodie (available for men and women) — because it features 18 hidden pockets — and doubles as a casual light jacket that you can wear during your trip!

Lightweight, compact Binoculars

I’m always thankful when I bring my small, lightweight, powerful binoculars on a trip! They are extremely valuable when hiking, on the beach, or just admiring the views from your hotel window or balcony.

My favorite binoculars are Nikon (especially compact sizes), as they are tiny and easy to travel with. They are lightweight, compact and can fit in the smallest of bags. You can toss them in your beach bag, day pack or carry-on bag, too. These weigh practically nothing.

On your next trip, pack a small pair of binoculars and you’ll be glad you did!

Hydro Flask Water bottle for all types of travel

If you’re like me, you probably have a collection of water bottles at home of all shapes and sizes. Put Hydro Flask at the top of the list! It’s made from professional-grade stainless steel and available in so many colors and sizes, with a variety of lids. It’s one of the rare bottles that keep your beverage cold or hot for over 12 hours.

Compression socks for long flights

Yes, you need compression socks on long flights!

You may have read about the importance of compression socks, but if not, check out this article about the health benefits of compression socks on Web MD. I’ve learned the best thing to do is wear regular socks to the airport and keep your compression socks in your carry-on.

There are many brands of compression socks — this brand offers a wide variety of colors and sizes.

Extra hint: Don’t wait until you’ve already boarded and in your seat to put on your compression socks, because space is limited on the plane and the socks are very (and necessarily) tight. So, it’s not easy to maneuver when you’re in your seat and space is limited.

Packing cubes to keep you organized

Many gift guides mention the value of packing cubes – for good reason. In my opinion, these zippered cubes really are the best travel companions and are so helpful in keeping your items organized while traveling.

Packing cubes are available in different colors, sizes, and thickness. You can choose from a variety of styles, too. For example, if you need to fit in as much stuff as possible in your suitcase, “compression” bags can be especially helpful.

Personally, I like using cubes of different colors and sizes to organize my items, as that makes it easy to identify what’s inside.

Most of all, I really prefer the packing cubes with a mesh front, so you can see the contents. (OR, if you’d rather try compression bags, click here and try this option from Bagsmart).

Baggallini travel bags  

I’ve been a fan of this company for a very long time and own several different types and styles of bags. These modern, stylish, and functional bags are all you need for travel. Originally designed by flight attendants, Baggallini offers a wide variety of bags, including crossbody, backpacks, mini bags, satchels and more. One of my favorites is the Baggallini Everywhere Bagg. It’s the perfect bag for travel and available in so many colors.

Cincha travel belt for your luggage

This new product is a clever travel belt that you wrap around your luggage. It has been very helpful to me in recent months, especially when flying and I need to navigate through airports and / or walk long distances with my roller suitcase. And these travel belts can help you, too, if you give them a try!

Cincha is simple and easy — it allows you to ‘add’ a bag to your roller luggage securely, and it will save you from juggling too many bags.

Cincha travel belt is essentially a cool belt that easily and tightly slips over the handle of your roller suitcase and clips around your smaller tote bag or backpack. It’s available in a selection of colors and sizes and they just offered a newer version with a small bag attached to the belt.

Rimowa: Gorgeous, upscale luggage

Everyone has their own luggage preference, and I happen to be a Rimowa fan. I’ve taken my bag around the world more than once! The quality of Rimowa is outstanding, and the bag is incredibly durable.

All of their bags are solidly made, and you’ll even notice how sturdy and smooth the wheels are when you roll it through the airport or along the street. I’ve been using my Rimowa bag for so long that it’s now been discontinued, but if you’re looking to invest in top quality luggage, you can splurge on this beautiful Rimowa bag (but this brand has many cool options to choose from)!

As a travel writer, I use several different bags, so if you prefer a brand that’s more budget-friendly, try the Samsonite brand, as I also found this one to be very reliable and well-made.  

Kizik shoes (yes, they are totally hands-free!)

One way to make traveling easier is to wear the right clothing when you’re flying. And when you’re traveling, the best shoes are the easiest and the most stress-free! I recommend the Kizik eco-knit slip-on sneaker because it makes going through airport security just a little easier!

Kizik shoes look like regular sneakers, but you don’t have to lace them up or even bend down to put them on. It’s true. You can take these shoes on an off without bending over or using your hands. And that’s a big plus when you’re jugging multiple bags and dealing with TSA.

I often get asked about my favorite travel hacks. Believe it or not, my favorite, low-cost item to share is a simple black sheet. I use it all the time, especially for road trips. You just throw it over all your items in the back seat of your car or SUV and watch them disappear!

The “black sheet” is a budget-friendly trick that works for your home or apartment while you are away. If you have items visible from the window, toss the sheet on top. This also works for hotel rooms. You can just cover your suitcases to keep your stuff “out of sight.” It’s an easy fix, it’s light and works surprisingly well! A truly life-changing product!

As a South Jersey local and area expert, I have visited all of these great local places multiple times throughout the year. I was also born and raised in Philadelphia, so I spent many years driving over the bridge to South Jersey for shopping. Often, I wondered what else I could do or visit while I was in the area (after shopping, of course)!

If you live in Philadelphia, you may have visited Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, or Collingswood, New Jersey for shopping or dining (just like me)! This part of South Jersey is called Camden County — and is only a few miles from Philly.

This area is home to an abundance of interesting, independently-owned stores, great, under-the-radar parks, and a multitude of larger malls and shopping centers. It’s filled with fun things to see and do — for adults as well as kids!

If you want to explore the area, there are many worthwhile places to visit in South Jersey — and this post is specifically for activities for adults in Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Collingswood, and nearby. These towns are located just across the Delaware River (via the Ben Franklin Bridge) and are less than a 10-minute drive from the main shopping centers in Cherry Hill. And yes, this includes Garden State Shopping Center on Route 70 (that’s the large shopping center where Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, Home Goods (and many other stores) are located! Note: Route 70 has a lot of construction going on these days, so expect a bit of traffic.

16 fun things to do in South Jersey (Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, and Collingswood areas) + a bonus beach destination!

There’s more to South Jersey than meets the eye! Once you discover all these lovely spots in the area, you’ll want to explore even more fun places. And these are all located in and around the Cherry Hill area, so all of these destinations are within a short drive within Camden County.

1. Visit the town of Haddonfield, NJ

The town of Haddonfield is historic, charming, and walkable and a short drive from the massive Garden State Park Shopping Center on Route 70 in Cherry Hill. Haddonfield is quaint, picturesque, and home to many independently-owned cool boutiques, cafes, and an array of restaurants. 

As you walk (or drive) along Kings Highway, the area’s main street, you will see plenty of activity – lots of pedestrians and fun shops of all kinds — including clothing boutiques, bookshops, art galleries, coffees shops, tea and spice shops, upscale consignment and thrift shops — and home design stores. There’re also cafes, restaurants, and the award-winning Kings Road brewery.

A few of my many favorite spots in Haddonfield: an independent bookstore, Inkwood Books; a fantastic hand-crafted chocolatier, Mecha Chocolate, a great Mexican restaurant, Canela Mexica Cafe and an awesome Mediterranean restaurant, called Zaffron Mediterranean Cuisine.

During the year, Haddonfield hosts many events, street fairs, and markets, so if you go, and you want to attend (or avoid) these events, If you like farmer’s markets, check out Haddonfield farmer’s market. Don’t forget….Most other small towns have farmer’s markets, too, such as Westmont and Collingswood (dates vary).

Dates to know for Haddonfield in 2026: Their annual “Skirmish” happens on Kings Highway in early June. It’s a Revolutionary War reenactment of when the troops met in this very spot! Get there early, because it’s a popular event! More details are here. Another big event in Haddonfield is the Craft and Fine Art Festival (usually in early July).

2. See the famous dinosaur statue in Haddonfield, NJ

Haddonfield is a quaint small town that’s filled with surprises! In fact, there’s a dinosaur statue in the middle of town because it was the first place in the world where a dinosaur skeleton was discovered in the 1800s. (Trivia: Steven Spielberg’s boyhood home was nearby — and he has revealed that this inspired those award-winning Jurassic Park films). You can see a dedication to him in front of the Westmont Theater — on Haddon Avenue!

The dinosaur statue is in the middle of everything, so you won’t miss it if you’re just strolling around. This is an especially delightful activity if you have kids, or if you’re a dinosaur enthusiast! Created by sculptor John Giannotti, this statue of Hadrosaurus is eight feet tall and eighteen feet in length.

Parking hint for Haddonfield: If you can’t find a metered parking spot along Kings Highway, don’t worry….there are several BIG parking lots behind the stores — and there are tons of parking spots at the Haddonfield PATCO train station at the south end of Kings Highway. Again, these are all metered spots. Note: Finding handicapped parking spots marked for disabled persons on the street can be challenging, and you’ll definitely find more options in the parking lots.

3. Visit a brewery in Haddonfield, NJ

Although Haddonfield is considered a “dry town,” you will find a brewery here! This means you won’t find any stores that sell alcohol, but you can enjoy a few pints at the local brewery, Kings Road Brewing Company It’s a cool, corner spot with plenty of seating — both at the bar and at tables. In warmer months, there’s an outdoor patio in the front and in the back of this brewery.

The brewery opened in 2017 and attracts a loyal crowd, as they offer handcrafted beer and seasonal releases all year long. The beer menu is extensive so you can order a flight and taste a variety of brews. It’s usually a lively and fun crowd, so you’ll definitely enjoy the ambiance if you stop by.

Note: Breweries in NJ are not allowed to sell food, so you will need to pick up a snack at a local place (and there are plenty nearby). If you like to sip cocktails, down the street is the newer Wiildfether Distillery, a fun two-story cocktail lounge set in a historical home. (See Number 16 below)!

4. Check out the cool town of Collingswood, NJ

The town of Collingswood is not far from Haddonfield. In fact, it’s just a short drive down Haddon Avenue. This is also a historic town, and in recent years has become a cool destination within the suburbs, as it’s walkable and vibrant. There are many new apartments in this area, as well as lots of stores, cafes, boutiques, and restaurants along Haddon Avenue. 

You can easily spend several leisurely hours strolling around Collingswood, as there’s a lot to explore, with many shops and businesses in this town. If you’re planning to come here for dinner, it’s best to make a reservation in advance. Note: Collingswood is a dry town, so be sure to BYOB to the restaurant!

Collingswood hosts many events, markets, and parades throughout the year! There’s always something exciting happening in this vibrant town!

5. Sip some delicious Greek coffee in Collingswood, NJ

Along Collingswood’s Haddon Avenue, there’s a wide array of local, family-run businesses. I personally love the ambiance at Koupa Espresso Bar for a coffee (technically located in Haddon Township). This friendly coffee shop offers plenty of Greek pastries (they even make authentic Greek coffee!) It’s an ideal place to meet a friend or bring your laptop and hang out for a bit. Afterward, if you’re in the mood to shop for some food items, Haddon Culinary Gourmet market always has some freshly made specialties. 

It’s a fun place to explore, especially when the weather is nice — and you’re sure to discover some interesting finds along the way. If you wish to check out the restaurant scene, it’s best to make a reservation at the more popular spots, especially on the weekend. 

Parking note for Collingswood: Parking is tough here! If you find a parking spot on the street, you need to pay at the kiosk. Try to park at the Collingswood PATCO station and walk a block to the center of town.

6. Explore Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill

Cooper River Park is a lovely place to walk (or run), enjoy nature, explore, go for a bike ride, paddleboard — or admire the lovely scenery. 

Cooper River Park is a large, 700-acre park located in two townships — Cherry Hill on one side and Pennsauken on the other. It features a paved pathway that’s nearly 5 miles around — and it’s picturesque, with river views and several lookout points, seating, and picnic areas. You’ll also find a large playground, a running track, a few lookout points with seating — and a number of interesting monuments along the way. You can also go boating and fishing here.

On weekends, it’s a busy place and it’s usually very lively during the summer months. It’s a popular spot for rowing events, 5k run / walks, and live music. During the warmer months, there’s canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and fishing, and you can also take sailing lessons here.

Tip for Philly visitors: The Philadelphia skyline is visible from the eastern side of the lake, and the best views are at sunrise and sunset. (And yes, there’s a parking lot there!)

7. Enjoy lunch or dinner with a great view of the Cooper River

At Cooper River Park, there’s a cool, casual restaurant, La Scalas Birra, situated on the lake that features great food, an outdoor patio, and pretty views. This restaurants serves up an array of Italian specialties in a casual environment, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Check it out for pizza, salads, and other tasty Italian specialties. We love to go in the warmer months, as you can sit out on one of their decks and admire the views, and it’s especially pretty at sunset.

The good news is that this restaurant has a large parking lot, too!

Additional Parking note for Cooper River Park: There is a lot of parking around here — several lots are around the park. However, if there is a big event going on, parking may be a bit more difficult. 

8. Visit Croft Farm in Cherry Hill (home to a playground & easy hiking trails)

Decades ago, Cherry Hill was mostly farmland. There are a number of small parks around Cherry Hill, and most have paved pathways (almost every small town in this area has one). Croft Farm in Cherry Hill is a great place to visit and a historic landmark. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places, as it was formerly a mill and farm, as well as a stop on the Underground Railroad.

Today, it’s an arts center and features wooded walking trails, a paved walking path, a new dog park, separated into areas for large and small dogs, and (newer) restrooms, too. There are several flat (very easy) wooded hiking trails that surround the property. They are marked and relatively simple, but it’s definitely a wooded area that can feel remote when the leaves are on the trees — so be aware!

Croft Farm hosts events throughout the year as well, such as their Christmas tree lighting, eco-friendly events, food truck events and more. Usually, there’s plenty of parking throughout this property!

Steps away from Croft Farm, you’ll see Challenge Grove Park, which is adjacent to the farm, with an awesome and very popular large playground (Jake’s Place), as well as flat (very easy) paved walking path. On summer weekends, the playground tends to get busy, as there’s also a shaded picnic pavilion here, too.

9. Go to Wegmans supermarket (especially if you haven’t been here!)

If you don’t live near a Wegmans supermarket, this is your chance to check out the most popular market in Cherry Hill! Wegmans is an elevated shopping / supermarket experience located on Route 70 in Cherry Hill. It has something for everyone, and always has a massive selection of fresh produce, seafood, baked goods and more. (And if you’re hungry, you can purchase a multitude of prepared foods and eat your meal in the cafe area.)

To purchase alcohol, you’ll need to go across the parking lot. Wegmans has a separate liquor store in a stand-alone building facing the supermarket. This shopping area is huge, and you’ll find a Trader Joes, Costco, Ulta Beauty, Barnes and Noble — and much more!

Hint: Wegmans is very popular on weekends, so be prepared for crowds. But the parking lot is huge — and you’ll always find a spot!

10. Dine at the Pub — the most retro restaurant around!

Are you seeking a classic, Old-School type of restaurant? This is it! So many of us who live in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia have grown up going to The Pub in Pennsauken for dinner — especially for special occasions. If you’re interested in taking a step back in time and if you love charcoal-fired meats, chicken, and classic seafood dishes, check out The Pub. (And for fans of salad bars, you’ll become an instant loyalist, as this salad bar has everything!) Meat lovers keep coming back for the steaks, and we love the crabcake dish — it’s one of our personal faves!

The Pub always feels festive, in a retro, fun ski-lodge kind of way. In addition to the great food, The Pub has an awesome bar with a robust selection of budget-friendly cocktails.

11. See where Bruce Springsteen was photographed in Haddonfield, NJ

Are you a Bruce Springsteen fan? You can visit several important sights in E Street history in Southern New Jersey. In the late 1970s, Bruce Springsteen drove down the New Jersey Turnpike to the quaint, quiet town of Haddonfield from his home in North Jersey. Why? For a photo shoot by photographer Frank Stefanko, who lived in this town. His resulting photos became super-famous — and very recognizable as the cover of Springsteen’s 1978 album, Darkness of the Edge of Town (featuring Bruce in front of flowered wallpaper). A number of his photos also appeared on his 1980 double album, The River, including the cover photo!

The indoor photos of Bruce were all taken inside Stefanko’s Haddonfield house. If you walk (or drive) down Kings Highway, you’ll see two memorable spots where Bruce posed outdoors on this cold winter day: the first is in front of the historic Indian King Tavern located at 233 Kings Highway East (now a historical site and museum — not a tavern). The second one is a where a well-known shot of Bruce leaning against a barber pole was taken. This was the location of Frank’s barber shop, which is now closed permanently. There are also a few images of him leaning against his Chevrolet Corvette, the vehicle that he drove there! You’ll notice there’s visible snow on the ground in most of these images.

But that’s not all! Back on Kings Highway (Route 41) in Cherry Hill, NJ, you’ll find a massive bowling alley (with billiards and arcade games) called Lucky Strike. Bruce Springsteen fans get an extra treat! This bowling alley was formerly called Uncle Al’s Erlton Theater Lounge — and Bruce and his band played a gig here on a memorable night in 1973. I’m told it was a rainy night and there were only about ten people in the audience.

Bonus points: You can see the original sign (pictured above) hanging “somewhere” inside (and notice the misspelling in Bruce’s last name).

Today, Bruce Springsteen is 76 years old and still touring the world with the legendary E Street Band! In fact, he just finished his world tour in Milan, Italy, with two incredibly high-energy shows in early July.

12. Drive under a covered bridge in Cherry Hill, NJ

Take a pleasant drive down Covered Bridge road in Cherry Hill and you’ll soon be winding your way under the famous Scarborough Bridge (AKA “Kissing Bridge”) one of two remaining covered bridges in New Jersey. This wooden bridge is considered a neighborhood landmark and has an exciting history, as it was created by Robert Scarborough, who developed the surrounding community (Barclay Farm) from farmland in the 1950s. The bridge was built by New Jersey architect Malcolm Wells.

This covered bridge is called the “Kissing Bridge” as it was dedicated on Valentine’s Day in 1959. Exactly 101 local couples joined in the dedication with a big smooch. If you want to spend a little time experiencing this two-lane covered bridge, you can park close by (on a side street, please), walk over the bridge, and admire the architecture and rustic scenery, including the creek (from the North Branch of the Cooper River) that runs beneath it.

How to find the covered bridge: It’s located in the center of Cherry Hill. Covered Bridge road runs between Route 70 and Kresson roads, and takes you through the Barclay Farm development.

13. Visit a hidden brewery in Cherry Hill, NJ

Beer enthusiasts love discovering new places, and Mechanical Brewery in Cherry Hill is one of those under-the-radar spots. You won’t find this on a main road, as it’s a bit off-the-beaten-path, but once you find it, you’ll be impressed with the beer selection, the fun ambiance, and the friendly staff. Even if you don’t have time to for a beer, you can purchase some unique cans or growlers to take home with you and sip later!

14. Tour the Battleship New Jersey

The Battleship New Jersey (USS New Jersey) is located in Camden on the waterfront, just across the river from Philadelphia. The Battleship New Jersey (USS New Jersey) is the most decorated ship in the United States and a national treasure. This ship has received honors for participating in several wars across the world — from 1938 until 1991.

The ship was decommissioned in 1991 and today its permanent home is Camden, NJ. The ship is now a fascinating history museum with a past that’s worth celebrating. There are a number of tours available throughout the year, some specific for adults and/or kids. Visitors may need to plan in advance, but it’s well worth touring this incredible floating historical landmark. More information about the Battleship NJ (and how to visit) can be found here.

15. Visit the Haddonfield Sculpture Zoo (for Children or adults seeking a quiet park)

If you have young children (or if you would like to sit and relax in a small neighborhood park), visit the Haddonfield Sculpture Zoo. Established by the Haddonfield Outdoor Sculpture Trust, this company park features bronze animal sculptures from a number of artists around the world. You’ll see a giraffe, a seal, an elephant, a toad, and more. There are plenty of benches for seating and trees for shade, and it’s a fun little spot for kids to run around and explore!

16. Visit a chic distillery in the center of Haddonfield: Wildfether

Ready to take a break and a few cocktails? Check out the Wildfether Distillery, located in a historical Victorian building along Kings Highway in Haddonfield. This large, multi-story space features two bars, an abundance of couches and lounge-style seating where you can your friends can enjoy a variety of hand-crafted sophisticated cocktails made from gin, rum, vodka, and whiskey made on site.

Cocktails here are balanced and made with care, and you’ll be impressed with the many choices — Wildfether also offers “non-alcoholic” beverages, too.

This establishment has a large parking lot in the back, and often looks very quiet from the street. Don’t let that fool you, as it’s always best to make a reservation here. There’s no food served, but you can order food from nearby restaurants (or bring your own snacks).

17. Skateboard at a new Skatepark & pumptrack – just for fun!

If you’re a skateboarder (or just like to admire the skaters carving, shredding the park and learning new tricks), check out the new Cooper River Skatepark in Cherry Hill. This new park opened in 2025 and is a fun, scenic place to skate. There’s plenty for newbies and experienced skaters here — there’s even a pump track! It’s the only skate park in Cherry Hill (there are others in Pennsauken, Maple Shade, Camden, and Medford). (Note: there is NOT much shade at the Cooper River Skatepark, so be aware if you’re planning to go on a hot day).

18. Take a road trip to Cape May, NJ (Bonus activity!)

If you have more time or you’re seeking a fun day trip from Cherry Hill, keep driving down Route 70 to several NJ beaches, including Long Beach Island. Or take a ride down the Atlantic City Expressway to visit Ocean City, Ventnor City Beach — or even Cape May, which is located at the Southern-most point in New Jersey. Most shore points are about an hour’s drive from Cherry Hill area. Although Cape May is farthest away, it’s still perfectly doable for a day trip — unless it’s a holiday weekend, of course.

Cape May is considered one of the loveliest and most unique beach towns in New Jersey. It features a multitude of historic bed and breakfasts and inns, a quiet boardwalk, and some highly-rated restaurants. Often referred to as “quaint,” it certainly has a different vibe from most of the other Jersey shore towns.

Cape May, New Jersey, is an enchanting, affluent destination that seamlessly blends a warm, friendly atmosphere with a rich historical heritage. Exploring Cape May offers a delightful experience for both tourists and professionals seeking respite from the bustle of everyday life.

Is Haddonfield, NJ a dry town? Yes, Haddonfield is a DRY town — Except there’s a brewery, winery and a distillery! Confused yet? The New Jersey state alcohol laws are tricky these days. You can buy beer and enjoy hanging out at the Haddonfield Brewery, Kings Road, which is on King’s Highway and the winery, which is also on Kings Highway…..but you CAN’T purchase food at either of these places, because they are not allowed to sell it.

You can, however, purchase your own food and eat it at these places, as you drink your beer or wine. So the best plan is…get your food first or order it — then go to the brewery, distillery or winery. Or, just order your food from a local restaurant while you’re already at these establishments and get it delivered right to you — or pick it up.

Do Haddonfield, NJ restaurants sell alcohol?

Do Haddonfield restaurants sell alcohol? Haddonfield was originally developed as a dry town, so NO, you can’t BUY any alcohol in any restaurants in Haddonfield, but you can BRING your own (BYOB) in Haddonfield. Many restaurants in NJ are “BYOB,” so be sure to check in advance. The good news is that NJ has liquor stores just about everywhere. The larger stores (such as Wegman’s and Total Wine) are massive supermarket-style stores. However, there are smaller stores around as well.

Is Cherry Hill, NJ a dry town? No, Cherry Hill is not a dry town, BUT there are many restaurants that do NOT sell alcohol, due to the expensive cost of liquor licenses. But not to worry, there are plenty of Cherry Hill restaurants that do have bars and do sell alcohol. Is Collingswood, NJ a dry town? Similar to Haddonfield, Collingswood was founded as a dry town, due to its Quaker roots. So, you can’t BUY any alcohol in any restaurants in Collingswood, but you can BRING your own (BYOB) in Haddonfield. Many restaurants in NJ are “BYOB,” so be sure to check before you go! To make this more confusing, the adjacent town of Westmont is NOT dry! You’ll find several bars and restaurants here that serve alcohol.

What’s the parking situation in Southern New Jersey?

Parking in Southern New Jersey is relatively easy. Most businesses in Cherry Hill have (usually large) parking lots. Many of the parks and outdoor spaces mentioned in this article have free parking. However, the towns of Collingswood and Haddonfield have street parking with parking meters. Some of these meters still require coins, while there are kiosks at others. Keep in mind that rules change often, so be sure to read the signs when you park.

• Check if the state you are traveling to has a mandatory quarantine requirement. (For example, New Jersey requires visitors from over 20 other states to self-quarantine for two weeks upon arrival).  

Prior to booking your hotel, Airbnb or rental home, be sure to ask the hotel representative or Airbnb host the following health-related questions: 

• What is the cleaning process used in the room / home? 
• Which specific products are used for cleaning? 
• What products will be available for you to personally use during your stay? (This will help you determine if you need to bring any extra). 
• Does your room or condo have a private entrance? If not, inquire about the mask policy in the lobby or common areas that you may need to walk through in order to gain entrance to your rental space. 
• If you are staying in a hotel room, check to see whether or not the room has a table for dining if you choose to order take-out. If not, ask if there is a common area with a table you can use and where it is located. 
• How often are the common areas are cleaned? How are health and safety restrictions enforced in any shared areas, such as the pool, rooftop deck, etc?
• If the property has a restaurant, ask about their health policy. 
• Plan for your meals and do some advance research regarding several area restaurants. This limits seating, so advance restaurant reservations may be necessary.

• Disinfecting spray (such as Lysol)

• Extra roll of paper towels 
• Cooler with food and beverages. For example, if you are taking a 3-day road trip, you can pack fruit, granola bars, trail mix, and other non-perishable items. Lisbon is home to an extensive and convenient public transportation system that’s budget-friendly and relatively easy to navigate. This small city offers many options for getting around, including busses, trams, underground subway trains (called the metro) and ferries, which bring passengers across the river.

FINGER LAKES NATIONAL FOREST

NEW YORK

The only national forest in New York State, the Finger Lakes National Forest is situated on 16,000 rural acres between Seneca and Cayuga lakes. A family-friendly favorite among the park’s 30 miles of hiking trails is the 3.8 mile Burnt Hill loop that traverses cow pastures, wooded landscapes, sloping hills and picturesque views along the way. It’s a lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon in the warmer months.

CAPE COD NATIONAL SEASHORE

MASSACHUSETTS

Winding along the craggy shoreline and across dense wooded areas, the Great Island Trail is over four miles of sandy beaches and marshes. Hikers wander past oyster farms, through a patch of forest, and along breathtaking seascapes overlooking the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Considered the toughest trail in the park, this hilly hike can be steep at times but offers splendid beach vistas from several lookout points along the way.

DIAMOND HEAD SUMMIT TRAIL

OAHU, HAWAII

It may look easy, as this popular 2-mile hike to the top of this ancient volcano is often crowded with tourists and most of the pathways are paved. However, it’s extremely steep and strenuous. Be sure to go at sunrise or early in the morning, as the temperature really heats up in mid-day and there is not much shade or anywhere to rest along the way. Once you reach the top, you will see military bunkers and a lighthouse built years ago by the US government. You will also be treated to glorious island views and a fantastic vantage point above Waikiki. Be sure to bring water, a hat and sunblock.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK

CALIFORNIA

The park’s numerous trails with spectacular scenery can keep hikers busy for months, and the 2.2 mile Mariposa Grove hike is one of the most scenic, situated in the most southern area of Yosemite. Captivating natural sights along this easy-to-moderate trail include the Grizzly Giant, a famous 2,700 year-old huge sequoia tree, considered the oldest in the world, and the California Tunnel Tree, a massive sequoia that was cut in the 1800s for stagecoaches to roll right through.

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK

ARIZONA

Steep and scenic, the popular Bright Angel trail is a maintained, well-traveled path with stunning views descending to the Colorado river from the canyon’s south rim. Also used by the mules that carry riders to the canyon floor, this trail’s hikers will often find themselves sharing the narrow pathway with those riding the animals. This 12-mile round-trip trek usually has drinking water along the way, but its switchbacks are very steep and the journey normally takes twice as long on the return ascent.

GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

TENNESSEE

A decidedly challenging hike, the Alum Cave Trail to the park’s Mount LeConte offers fascinating geological elements and panoramic views along this 11 mile pastoral round trip trail. The trail opens each year in late Spring. For experienced hikers, this trek ascends past formations such as Arch Rock, Inspiration Point and Eye of the Needle. On the upper trail, cable handrails are used to cross rock ledges. Upon reaching the summit, views from Myrtle Point (near the LeConte lodge) offer a spellbinding look at the eastern Smokies.

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK

WYOMING

As the first national park established in the USA, Yellowstone encompasses 2.2 million lush acres of enchanting vistas, stunning waterfalls and plenty of wildlife. With the largest concentration of geysers in the world, the park offers a multitude of jaw-dropping sights, such as Old Faithful and Mammoth Hot Springs, A popular day hike is the Lake Overlook trail, a two-mile moderate loop that begins at the West Thumb Geyser area. It’s a gradual incline along Yellowstone Lake, the largest high-elevation lake in North America (over 7,000 feet) with sweeping views of the Red mountains, Mount Sheridan and the Grand Tetons.

CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK

OREGON

Known far and wide as a geographic marvel surrounding the deepest lake in the US, this national park features an active volcano, along with magnificent lakeside views. The park’s Wizard Island Summit trail is a one-mile round trip rocky climb encircling the 90-foot deep crater summit. With the switchbacks becoming increasingly steeper towards the summit, most hikers agree that the picturesque cobalt blue lake vistas at the top are worth the climb. This trail is unique because hikers take a boat to the start of the trail, located at the Wizard Island dock so be sure to plan in advance.

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

MAINE

Established as the first Eastern National Park, Acadia has over 120 miles of hiking trails through a variety of terrain, including dramatic cliffs, scenic lakes, tranquil lush forests and lovely sandy beaches. The Jordan Pond nature trail is a leisurely, fun, well-maintained one-mile loop encircling the pond, leading walkers past wooded areas and over a few boulders. Afterwards, hikers like to relax and enjoy fresh popovers and a cold glass of lemonade on the lawn of the Jordan Pond restaurant, overlooking the majestic Bubble Mountains. This experience is a fantastic post-hike treat, so don’t miss it!

NEW RIVER GORGE NATIONAL RIVER

WEST VIRGINIA

Pleasant and meandering, this 5.6-mile hike follows an abandoned railroad along the picturesque Glade Creek trail. Hikers walk through wooded areas, past scenic small waterfalls and several swimming holes (an ideal rest stop on hot summer days). This area features brilliant flowers in spring and plenty of wildlife, too. In addition, the lower part of Glade Creek is also a designated “catch and release” trout stream that’s popular with area fly fishers.
